Susanna Hand is a top national-level bodybuilder eager to earn her pro card at the 2014 USA Championship, where she took 4th in 2013. Originally from New Jersey, Susanna moved to Los Angeles in 2013 just a few miles from the well-known Gold’s Venice. When visiting family back east, she can be found hitting it hard at Apollon, one of the country’s top hardcore gyms and her home away from home.
Susanna is a Rutgers graduate and has worked as a Spanish teacher since 2003. While working as an assistant coach of a national championship cheerleading squad, she realized that she was more interested in being the athlete than the coach. She still had the hunger inside her, so she began training, learning, researching, and asking questions. Eventually she asked a local judge for a diet, but he suggested she do a show instead. Susanna began prep the week after finishing her Master’s Degree in Spanish and made her competition debut at the 2011 Garden State Championship where she won her class and fell in love with the sport. Never did she imagine that she would be able to transform her physique to the extent that she has in these past years.
Susanna believes that aiming to be skinny sends the message that weakness is feminine. At just 5’3 and competing at 150lbs, Susanna hopes to show that a woman can have serious mass without sacrificing femininity. Be on the lookout for her in 2014 when she drops the hammer and proves herself correct.
